Do you know a Nigerian ‘Star’? Then, submit an original article about an individual who is MAD [Making a Difference] around you: in your community, school, workplace, marketplace, locale or state. It is your turn to inspire Nigerians and Africans at large, and celebrate the Stars that you encounter in your different spheres and spaces.

 THE RULES OF ENGAGEMENT:

1. Submissions must not be less than 500 words or above 1000 words.
2. It must be the original work of the author and include at least one picture and the contact details of the ‘Star/subject’.
3. Your ‘Star’ cannot include any person(s) already featured on http://www.konnectafrica.net/
4. Kindly ensure that your submission is accompanied by a short profile of you.
5. The title of your mail should read: ‘I Know a Nigerian Star’ [The Name of your Star] ie ‘I Know a Nigerian Star – Modupe Ehirim
6. Your essay and profile should be contained in the body of the mail; pictures should be included as attachments.

Growing up in the 80s and 90s

I recently saw a picture on a friend's bbm display picture about how those that were born in the 80's were gradually turning old. This got me going down memory lane. Back then, we didn't have the technology, or facilities we have today. However, life was fun. In school, we couldn't wait for break time to play games like; ten ten, who is in the garden and tinco tinco. Skipping was just a game, not part of an exercise regime like it is now.

I remember TV stations started airing by 4pm. Pending that time, we found ourselves playing the same game‎s that we played in school earlier in the day. In addition to that, we played Ludo, Snake and Ladder, Ayo, Mummy and Daddy. Violence wasn't as prevalent as it is now. Aside from Lawrence Anini (the dreaded armed robber who reigned supreme in the 80s), Nigeria was almost a safe haven, considering how it is now. There may not have been constant electricity, or money, but we had some sense of security. There was no need for vigilante groups.

I remember sitting by the TV, waiting for our favourite programmes like; Super Ted, Voltron and Power Rangers. My Sunday wouldn’t be complete without watching Touched by an angel which was a little similar to Highway to heaven. It was not just the programmes of the 80s, but the 90s as well. They include:
